985. Well, one can’t get over the habit of being a little girl all at once… ~Lucy Maud Montgomery

things may be a requirement of genius.

I am often accused of being childish.  I prefer to interpret that as child-like. I still get wildly enthusiastic about little things. I tend to exaggerate and fantasize and embellish. I still listen to instinctual urges. I play with leaves. I skip down the street and run against the wind. I never water my garden without soaking myself. It has been after such times of joy that I have achieved my greatest creativity and produced my best work. ~Leo F. Buscaglia

I resemble all the remarks above, and I’m darned proud of it. Mike Dolan said that we should “anticipate the day as if it was our birthday and we are turning six again.” And that works quite well for me thank you very much. Perhaps that’s why I squealed with delight late last night when it began to snow on my blog. I had forgotten all about WP’s snow option and was delightfully beside myself when it started to fall across my computer screen. We don’t get a whole lot of snow, if any, where I live, but now I know that for an entire month, it will be snowing all day long and into the night on my blog. How much more merry and bright can it get?! Love, love, love it, and so I refuse to put away the fabulous “childish” things that are part of the miracles during the season of lights. And another thing, what’s the best part of the Christmas tree? Isn’t it the lights? Well I think so, and that’s why the last two years, I’ve put a lighted outside metal tree in my house instead of the traditional tree. There’s no icicles nor ornaments nor any other decorations on it. It’s just the glowing, twinkling, multi-colored luminescent glory of elfin lights!!! How’s that for being a kid??? And a genius, I might add! Oh December is going to be a fun month this time around because the little girl in me is alive and well again!

He called a little child to him, and placed the child among them. And he said: “Truly I tell you, unless you change and become like little children, you will never enter the kingdom of heaven. Therefore, whoever takes the lowly position of this child is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven. ~Matthew 18:2-4   ✝

  1. Oh to be a child again. My inner child does like to come out in December. All the festivities, snow fall when we get it and watching the light of expectance in children’s eyes makes mine want out to play. 🙂

  2. Isn’t it wonderful—that rapturous joy of simple abandonment–we adults don’t relish in it nearly enough—as you say the simple wonder and joy of snow, albeit animated…the contentment watching two squirrels going at it in the yard, the sound of feet kicking through the leaves…it’s all there, still delightfully all there…it’s just a matter of relearning how to see it all over again—blessings to you my skipping, hopping, popping, little tumbleweed 🙂

    • Yes, they do Charlie, and even I had to at one time. But my mentor picked me up, dusted off my britches and insisted on and taught me how to get in touch with my inner child. And praise the Lord that she did. Hope you find the time to get in touch with yours as well. Love and hugs, N 🙂 ❤

  3. I also skip, and jump in puddles and build snowmen, and make up little fantastical tales at night so that I can dream about them! 💖💖 😊. As long as we know how to do grownup things like paying bills, cooking food, washing clothes, and taking the bus, it is okay to be like a child at heart! It is rather awesome! 💖😊❄️🎅🏽🎄☃

    • Oh for sure, skipping and jumping and building snowmen are a must.!<3 ❤ ❤ 🙂 I agree with you that as long as we know how to be an adult and take care of business as an adult, it's okay be let our inner child out to play at times. And most definitely is it super awesome!!!! And you would have been on my favorite playmate list too. Love and hugs, Natalie 🙂 ❤ xoxoxoxo

  4. I really act like a kid. My Mom has had a positive attitude and encourages an “open and giving heart.” I’d we follow this idea, our approaching God and Life as a child, we will be much happier and be rewarded with joyous, simple moments, Natalie. ♡♡

      • Oh I do too, Robin. In fact way back there, some of my colleagues commented that when I was with a group of my students, it was hard to tell which one was which. My grandsons have always enjoyed my ability to play right along with them, at least until now that they’ve hit their teens and that’s not “cool.”
As for my mom, she was always so happy about my playful nature. In the end, I think perhaps it was because she just never let herself have a really good time and enjoy herself. But oh well, here’s to simply joys and simple pleasures. Love and hugs, N 🙂 ❤

  5. Yes, yes, YES! I’m imagining twirling around, cause I’d get dizzy if I did it. I can jump in puddles though! Whenever I’m riding or driving in the car at night and see Christmas lights, I shout, “Christmas lights!” It really is the most wonderful time of the year, and knowing this keeps us young at ❤ 🙂

    • I have to do that kind of imagining about some thing these days too. Not only do I jump or stomp in puddles, I make sure to drive my car through them so they make a big splash. And yes, Chrismtas lights make me squeal too. In fact, James and I nearly always drive all around at least one night to see all the Christmas lights we can find. It is a magical time of year for sure. Love and hugs, N 🙂 ❤

    • You are welcome, Brad. Thank you for appreciating my child-like delight. I just love it when it starts to snow here on my blog and really wish they’d leave it on all winter. Love the thought of them dancing with delight. May we do the same in our everyday lives. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

  6. What an uplifting post. It is so true that we need to find the inner child in us – that innocence and acceptance of life without all the angst. I felt the same way when I saw the snow too. Especially as we are now officially in summer.

    • Why thank you, Raewyn. I’m so glad you found it uplifting. And yes, we all need to be in touch with our inner child. Oh I hadn’t thought of that. Well snow in summer would be just fine with me too.
      Love and hugs, N 🙂 ❤
