1014. I love at least one night by the Christmas tree to sing and feel the quiet holiness of that time that’s set apart to celebrate love, friendship, and God’s gift of the Christ child. ~Amy Grant

Christmas in Bethlehem. The ancient dream:
a cold, clear night made brilliant by a glorious star,
the smell of incense, shepherds and wise men
falling to their knees in adoration of the sweet baby,
the incarnation of perfect love.

When everyone had gone
I sat in the library
With the small silent tree,
She and I alone.
How softly she shone!

And for the first time then
For the first time this year,
I felt reborn again,
I knew love’s presence near.
Love distant, love detached,

And strangely without weight,
Was with me in the night
When everyone had gone
And the garland of pure light
Stayed on, stayed on.
~May Sarton

And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.” ~Luke 2:8-11  ✝

  1. I can relate to Amy Grant’s quote…a little bit of time by the tree by myself:) The early morning hours, by the light of tree woven with bubble lights, candlesticks, and strands of colored lights, (thanks to my dear husband) I am blessed to enjoy this holy time with Jesus. Yes, praise God on High, and peace towards all men:) God bless and Merry Christmas.

    • Oh me too, Denise. I turn on the lights when I first get up and enjoy just sitting in my chair alone until James gets up. And then at night, I’m usually a little behind him going to bed and I enjoy again just sitting in the quiet and stillness looking at the lights.
Indeed, I praise His holy name and pray for peace for all of us. Merry Christmas to you and yours and may you all have a truly blessed new year. Love, N 🙂 ❤

    • I especially like those too, Pete. I would love to know what her thoughts were as well. Perhaps it meant that Christ forever stayed in her heart. I hope so. Love and hugs and Merry Christmas to you and yours. Love, N 🙂 ❤ 🎄🎄🎄

  2. Amy Grant and I are a year apart in age—she began her assent upward when I was in college— several of my college friends had known her at Furman– introducing me to her music—during most of my college time and thereafter her music became my music—with her first Christmas album becoming not only a favorite of mine but of me son’s–starting when he was very young—wonderful memories… thank you Natalie

  3. We were doing that tonight…a lovely moment spent with family! And we have a new member she is from China, and has never celebrated Christmas in this way and fashion, so I have another daughter. She became close friends with my daughter DeBrijae when she was studying Mandarin in China. Wen-Wen is attending College now in Pittsburgh, her presence is a blessing. Your post reminds me to be thankful for all things in our lives. I am thankful for your friendship my dear sister! God bless!
