604. Why always “not yet”? Do flowers in spring say “not yet”? ~Norman Douglas

I held a moment in my hand,
brilliant as a star,
fragile as a flower,
a tiny sliver of one hour.
I dripped it carelessly.
Ah! I didn’t know,
I held opportunity.
~Hazel Lee

There’s a whisper
inside of you…

It’s saying it’s time to
kick it up a notch.

To love more.
To create more.
To forgive more.

To be more of all that
you are and of all that
you can be.

You hear it, don’t you?
~Nick Ortner

And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works…  ~Hebrews 10:24    ✝

603. January is the quietest month in the garden…but just because it looks quiet doesn’t mean that nothing is happening. ~Rosalie Muller Wright

Mother Nature sleeps now,
All the earth is bare;
Deep in the ground
She guards her treasures rare.

My garden is all put to bed for the winter.
Faded and dead are its brightly-colored blossoms,
Its green leaves decayed and fell to the ground.
But deep in the dark soil the dry bulbs
And the delicate rootlets are sleeping;
While the leaves make a blanket above them.
They sleep and they wait for the spring’s
First call to awakening life.
Sometimes when dark days are burdened:
When my hands are wearied with working;
I wish that some kindly gardener
Would cover me warm and leave me to rest
Like the roots and bulbs in my garden–
To sleep and grow strong like the flowers
For another season of blooming.

By wisdom a house is built, and through understanding it is established; through knowledge its rooms are filled with rare and beautiful treasures. ~Proverbs 24:3-5   ✝

Faint Kiss

Faint-Kiss

Bright, in the darkness, Blessing Ringing,

Dancing Light in Willows weeds,

Clamouring Life, through the Mould is Springing,

Gracing All, as Growth goes to Seed.

Remember, then, in the Pitch of Night,

Blossoms Tarry for the Faint Kiss of Light.

602. From out of the darkness and cold, the light…and hope return. ~Author Unknown

Look well to this day.
Yesterday is but a dream
and tomorrow is only a vision.
But today well lived
makes every yesterday
a dream of happiness,
and every tomorrow a vision of hope.
Look well therefore to this day.
~Francis Gray

A new Sabbath has dawned and in it
there is light where before only darkness
there is warmth where before only cold
there are blue skies where before only somber ones
there is movement where before only stillness
there are bits of color where before only masses of grey
there’s a smattering of greens where before only beige and browns
there’s a remnant of red leaves where elsewhere there are none
Day has come, count the blessings that you find!

He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. ~Micah 6:8  ✝

Let us welcome you, Lord Jesus, in all the spaces and places in our lives and in every fiber of our being. We welcome you, O Mighty God! We welcome you to stay!

601. Drop the last year into the silent limbo of the past.  Let it go, for it was imperfect, and thank God that it can go. ~Brooks Atkinson

To leave the old with a burst of song,
To recall the right and forgive the wrong;
To forget the thing that blinds you fast
To the vain regrets of the year that’s past.
~Robert B. Beattie

New year
New month
New day

New start
New hope
New tale

Forget the past
the grief and pain
leave both behind

Take your failure
as a challenge
to stand and strive

Go on
live life
with grateful bliss

Move on
have faith
and smile!

We Do Need Each Other

Laughter is the best medicine.

Fighting Spirit's avatarA Small Act Of Kindness Can Bring Smile On Million Faces

Many years ago, Norman Cousins was diagnosed as “terminally ill.” He was given six months to live. His chance for recovery was one in 500.

He could see the worry, depression and anger in his life contributed to, and perhaps helped cause, his disease. He wondered, “If illness can be caused by negativity, can wellness be created by positivity?” He decided to make an experiment of himself.

Laughing was one of the most positive activities he knew. He rented all the funny movies he could find – Keaton, Chaplin, Fields, the Marx Brothers. (This was before VCRs, so he had to rent the actual films.) He read funny stories. He asked his friends to call him whenever they said, heard or did something funny.

His pain was so great he could not sleep. Laughing for 10 solid minutes, he found, relieved the pain for several hours so he could sleep…

600. There are two ways of spreading light: to be the candle or the mirror that reflects it. ~Edith Wharton

A
candle
loses
nothing
by lighting
another candle.

Light a candle in your soul,
And carry with you in the dark.
If you see a flame that’s lost its glow
Let yours supply the spark.
For a flame grows only brighter
When it gives to another of its light.

Believe in yourself in the depths of your being,
Nourish the talents your spirit is freeing.
Know in your heart when the going gets slow,
That your faith in yourself will continue to grow.
Don’t give up your dreams though others may have doubt,
It’s your life to live, you must delight in it throughout.
So learn from your errors, don’t dwell in the past,
And never withdraw from a world that’s vast.
Believe in yourself, find the best that is you,
Let your spirit prevail, steer a course that is true.
