What sunshine is to flowers,

The poppies send up their
orange flares; swaying
in the wind, their congregations
are a levitation

of bright dust, of thin
and lacy leaves.
There isn’t a place
in this world that doesn’t

sooner or later drown
in the indigos of darkness,

the roughage

shines like a miracle
as it floats above everything
with its yellow hair.

  7. Oh my—I just uttered out loud to no one, upon seeing this poppy–WHOA—as in take my breath away with such vibrant and overwhelming color—and maybe that is because my world seems so steeped in brown, grey and bitter cold—-what a joy to behold!!!

    • I absolutely adore Iceland Poppies. They are one of my favorite things about spring. And like you, when I see them they almost take my breath away.
