What sunshine is to flowers,
smiles are to humanity.
These are not trifles, to be sure;
but scattered along life’s pathway,
the good they do is inconceivable.
~Joseph Addison
The poppies send up their
orange flares; swaying
in the wind, their congregations
are a levitation
of bright dust, of thin
and lacy leaves.
There isn’t a place
in this world that doesn’t
sooner or later drown
in the indigos of darkness,
but now, for a while,
the roughage
shines like a miracle
as it floats above everything
with its yellow hair.
Of course nothing stops the cold,
black, curved blade
from hooking forward—
of course
loss is the great lesson.
But I also say this: that light
is an invitation
to happiness,
and that happiness,
when it’s done right,
is a kind of holiness,
palpable and redemptive.
~Mary Oliver
You will also declare a thing, and it will be established for you; so light will shine on your ways. ~Job 22:28 ✝

Stunning post as ever, eventhough I don’t comment anymore, I’m always here, I always read, I still read & LOVE you 🙂 – Keep confidence, your surgery will be okay, and it will be a huge relief, and such a nice reward to walk in your garden with your grandchildren with no pain 🙂

Oh my—I just uttered out loud to no one, upon seeing this poppy–WHOA—as in take my breath away with such vibrant and overwhelming color—and maybe that is because my world seems so steeped in brown, grey and bitter cold—-what a joy to behold!!!
Thank you for the jolt of energy, joy and beauty—know that I love you Natalie—Julie

I absolutely adore Iceland Poppies. They are one of my favorite things about spring. And like you, when I see them they almost take my breath away. I’m so glad this one brightened and warmed your day. It looks like soon we’re going to be very cold again here for a few days. You are my sweet Georgia Peach, missy, and I love you too. Hugs, N ❤ ❤ ❤
