How good it is to center down! To sit quietly and see one’s self pass by! The streets of our mind seethe with endless traffic; our spirits resound with clashings, with noisy silences, while something deep within hungers and thirsts for the still moment and the resting lull. We look at ourselves in this waiting moment–the kinds of people we are. The questions persist; what are we doing with our lives? What is the end of our doings? Where is my treasure? As we listen, floating up through all the jangling echoes of our turbulence, there is a sound of another kind–a deeper note which only the stillness of the heart makes clear. It moves directly to the core of our being. Our questions are answered, our spirits are refreshed, and we move back into the traffic of our daily rounds with the peace of the Eternal in our step. How good it is to center down! ~Excerpt from For the Inward Journey by Howard Thurman, American author, philosopher, theologian, educator
Happy is the one who listens to me, watching daily at my gates, waiting beside my doors. ~Proverbs 8:34 ✝

I wholeheartedly agree and try to cherish these moments whenever possible. Sadly most people have lost the ability and even the will to become very quiet and listen to themselves and what nature has to tell us. I suppose we’re lucky that we’re still able 😉

Yes, many have lost the ability to do this and they are missing out on a lot, I think. We are lucky that we have not because that’s where we find some of the choicest tidbits. Blessings, Natalie 🙂

Absolutely gotta have it! Otherwise the world of madness outside my doors, would take me down into a deep, dark hole. And I seriously past the climbing back up and out stage! Ha Ha I wish you a happy and very peaceful new year, Laurie! Blessings, Natalie 🙂

As time goes on Natalie it gets that little bit harder to climb out. That mad old world seems to be getting madder as time goes on, or is it just me? New year is nearly here, 7 hours and I should be fast asleep in 5. 🙂
Cheers

I love those refreshing moments when my heart is still and I hear from the Maker of minds. It seems that much of the unnatural life tries to prevent these much needed times. Night and early morning are the days best blessings; it would be unbearable if each day just ran into the next. Coming to visit your posts, Natalie, is a lovely way to ‘center down’ during the day’s busyness.

Why thank you, Wendy, what a sweet thing to say. I have to have my center down time or the madness in the world of men would take me down in a very dark place. We we both be blessed with an abundance of centering down time in the new year. Blessings, Natalie 🙂
