This post is in loving memory of Debbie Jeanne Avila , a friend and fellow blogger. Tonight I’ve chosen bits and pieces of some of Debbie’s poetry to honor her, and because she loved my photos of flowers, I’m including one with each excerpt. Sweet Debbie you will not be forgotten, and I am comforted that for you to be absent here, means that you are now and forever in the presence of Jesus. Till we meet again. Love, Natalie
I had forgotten what LIFE was all about,
Those dark chocolate nights dipped in indubitable doubts,
Wonderful wonderings if this was all there is,
And if it was, then, we had bitten envied bliss.
as sad as a morning glory that has never met
her glory I am damp with seeds that have never met
the portent wise sunlight–
damp with grinding dreams at my hoof and
damper after they sodden cold with dawn’s
twilight–
nothing reverts or inverts, if all formulates into
winter’s beginning and continuance
Help me with my un-perceived progress
I stand still, everything around me sweeping
Like a Kansas tornado.
So many
voices within, held down and pressed,
It scares me to hear such a composing
Of songs I alone know
September vivifies the introspections of soul like
The glaciating mountains in silence-
Ruminating, finding their niches so to sleep and then
Shake at springs kissing–
It embers gently, suspiciously as if someone would
Snuff it out too soon–
Miscreant as it may some times be with the unexpected
Heat and elongated sun-kissed troubling–
Days are slightly shorter for most living breathing ways,
As I turn down the lights,
Pick up Keats and Dickinson, Rumi and rosehips
For morning simmering decadence. (http://girlwiththepen1118.wordpress.com)

Thanks, Andy. I cried too while I was working on it. Debbie was was not very old at all and she had one of those slowly debilitating diseases for which there is no cure. At one time she was a very pretty woman and in the last picture I saw of her she was very thin and frail and had a breathing tube in her neck. You can tell from the excerpts I chose that she knew she was dying, and yet she always had an uplifting word for us all. It’s just so so sad when someone so young has to die like this. That’s why we must never take for granted the gift of each new day. Blessings, my friend. Hugs, Natalie 🙂

I only found out from another blogger also. I think he said it was on January 15. It was such a shock and yet I knew that she was suffering from different comments she had made over the last six months on her blog. Next week I will post a tribute as I don’t think everyone knows yet… She was such a sweet woman and poignant poet.
Here is the tribute I read: http://wherewordsdailycomealive.wordpress.com/2014/01/25/our-beloved-sister-deborah-jeanne-avila/

Natalie,
What an awesome tribute.
I have often wondered, what might happen to one of us if suddenty we were taken away, not able to say goodbye. If only we all had an Angel such as you to subscribe to.
Recently, I have found the most amazing connection between photographs and words and become addicted trying to match them. You have done that masterfully here!
God bless you and your friendship!
May it live on in your heart and may we all value each other realizing that we might have our own Natalies among us as Angels unaware!

Wow, thank you for your kind words! Debbie was such a sweetheart and so good at cheering people on while never once lamenting her long and debilitating illness, and illness that would rob her of life way too early. So it was my honor to pay tribute to her and her talent. I told my daughter several years ago that I finally knew what I wanted to be when I grew up. Since I was in my 60’s, she looked surprised that I was just then coming upon that realization, but then she knew her mom is a bit quirky. I told her I’d found my niche in being a “good fairy” or earth angel as some would call it. We all need people who lift us up and I’ve found that I can and do enjoy doing that. So much in today’s culture makes us, women especially, feel like we don’t measure up if we don’t fit the “mold” portrayed in the media. And since we all are made in God’s image, it is lie and a very damaging one at that. Debbie always made me smile and warmed my heart, and it is only fair that I take her gift on into the future. I’m glad you liked my post. I too loved connecting photographs to words. Hugs, Natalie 🙂
