Two Wolves – Cherokee Parable

An old Cherokee chief was teaching his grandson about life.
“A fight is going on inside me,” he said to the boy.
“It is a terrible fight and it is between two wolves.
One is evil – he is anger, envy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, self-doubt, and ego.”
He continued, “The other is good – he is joy, peace, love, hope, serenity, humility, kindness, benevolence, empathy, generosity, truth, compassion, and faith.
This same fight is going on inside you – and inside every other person, too.”

The grandson thought about it for a minute and then asked his grandfather,
“Which wolf will win?”
The old chief simply replied, “The one you feed.”

  2. A wonderful tale of choice–I hope you are still mending and healing!! I thought of you yesterday when I went with Gregory to the woods as that is how he enjoys spending his day off–fishing, hunting, etc—we were about an hour south from Carrollton, on some property he hunts. While walking through the woods, I fall in a stump hole–it was covered by a myriad of leaves. My right leg disappeared up to my knee, with my face planted on the ground. Luckily I didn’t break it–just took all the meat off the shine complete with a giant goose egg—maybe that was my sympathy accident for you 🙂
Gregory’s philosophy–once he saw it wan’t broken, is the “oh you’re fine, get up spit on it and rub a little dirt on it” school of thought—
and off I went, limbing and covered in blood, dirt and leaves 🙂
Sympathy pain just for you my friend—or at least a good little story to put a smile on your face as you imagine me have stuck in a hole with a face buried in the leaves. 🙂

    • Oh, Cookie, I’m so sorry you hurt yourself. Are you sure nothing is broken? I’ll bet you are sore and bruised today. What a friend to endure such sympathy pain for another!!! I didn’t smile at the thought of it at all; I’m just so concerned that you are okay. I’ve been hobbling around on my cane today, but it is still not well. I’m gonna give it to the end of the week and if it’s not quite a bit better by then, I’m gonna go see the doc again and see what’s next. Bless your heart, sweetie pie! Again I am so sorry that you had such a dreadful accident. Hugs, hugs, and more hugs. Love, Natalie 🙂
