Angels descending,
bring from above,
echoes of mercy,
whispers of love.
~Fanny J. Crosby
My cats start meowing for food around daybreak, and when I hear them, I heed the call, put out their food, and then settle back in my recliner to snooze a little longer. In between my snippets of sleep, I open my eyes to enjoy the spectacle of day’s coming as it moves in and across my backyard. Yesterday because I had seen a hummingbird at my feeder, I’d decided to leave my camera near my chair. So the photo above was shot early this morning from inside through a sliding glass door and its screen. Sadly the little guy was not up as close as I’d have liked nor is he completely in focus. But I loved the image because as he hovered with wings still rapidly in motion, the camera captured him just at the right moment so that it looks like he has the tiny wings of an angel. And who knows? Perhaps he was and had been sent to remind me that…
It’s not just another day.
It’s the one day that is given to me today.
It’s a gift.
It’s the only gift I have right now,
and the only appropriate response
is gratefulness.

Lord, Your beauty draws all things to Yourself. Please let me stay and rest in your holiness.
What a good thing you left the camera near your chair! And I’ve loved that opening quote for a long time. What a mental image. Thank you, Natalie.

I don’t know why I don’t always leave it there. There are things I’ve missed because I had to get up and get it. I’ve loved the quote for a long time too and was delighted that it fit so perfectly with my little angel tale. I’m so glad you liked it and as always I appreciate your kind words, Cynthia. Hugs, N 🙂

Just lovely, Natalie. The wings in motion are a perfect reminder of the exceptional beauty our Lord brings to us day by day. I saw my first monarch butterfly today, but was not quick enough to capture its stained glass wings. Your post is perfect! Love & blessings, Bette. ❤

Thank you, Bette. I’m so glad you enjoyed the post. I saw my first Monarch last week, but I didn’t get a picture of mine either. I was outside with the people who installed my sprinkling system. They were here to do a repair and I couldn’t break away from what I was showing them. What a bummer! Oh well, I pray there are more as we move into September. Love and hugs, N 🙂

They are elusive little suckers and that’s why I planted the camera right there by my chair. I had a feeling he’d come this morning and when I saw him, I just started snapping away. Ooooh, I’ll bet there were some yummy eats at your house this weekend then! I’ve started cutting back and cleaning up my beds too. Lots of deadheading and weed pulling which would not be so freaking bad if it weren’t for all this nasty, nasty heat. But I am making progress and the yard is looking a little less tired and spent. As soon as it cools off a bit the roses will start blooming again and that’s always a treat. Fall is one of my most favorite seasons too.
I pray that soon we’ll both get to enjoy that first cool crisp fall day. Love and hugs, my friend. 🙂
