505. The moon’s an arrant thief, and her pale fire she snatches from the sun. ~William Shakespeare

The moon is at her full,
and riding high,
floods the calm fields
with light.

In broad daylight, and at noon,
Yesterday I saw the moon
Sailing high, but faint and white,
As a schoolboy’s paper kite.
In broad daylight, yesterday,
I read a poet’s mystic lay;
And it seemed to me at most
As a phantom, or a ghost.
But at length the feverish day
Like a passion died away,
And the night, serene and still,
Fell on village, vale, and hill.
Then the moon, in all her pride,
Like a spirit glorified,
Filled and overflowed the night
With revelations of her light.
And the Poet’s song again
Passed like music through my brain;
Night interpreted to me
All its grace and mystery.
~Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

When I consider your heavens, the work of your fingers the moon and the stars, which you have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them? ~Psalm 8:3-4    ✝

  1. very mysterious and peaceful all rolled into one 🙂
    Getting me in that October mood, now only if the weather would let me think we’ve moved into Fall instead of being stuck in dead summer!!

    • Oh I hope you get some fallish weather soon. It was 93 before that storm blew through here today, but now we’ll have a few very nice ones before it goes back up again.
      So it’s trying to get started here. Hugs and love, N 🙂 ❤

  2. On my walk last evening I was considering things similar to the Psalmist. I was looking up at the sky and just reflecting on how I am just this tiny little speck that is stuck to this big ball called ‘Earth’, by a force called ‘Gravity’. And that this big Earth ball has a protective shield around it called ‘atmosphere’ and if we were to go outside of it, we would not be able to live without some type of apparatus that would pump air in so we could breathe. I’m awed by this. And there are still people that say there is not God.

    • I know. I just don’t know how they can observe the world around them and not come at some point to believe there is a God. I’m awed by almost everything these days and all of it proves over and over again that there is a God and that He wants to be in relationship with each and every one of us.
      I pray you have a great weekend, Staci. Hugs and love, N
