The rain began again.
It fell heavily, easily, with no
meaning or intention but the
fulfillment of its own nature…
~Helen Garner
Late yesterday the wind began pushing hard, very hard against the yard and house. Then rain pelted the roof in the night, and the power went out leaving only the sound of the rain falling in the dark, the utter darkness of deepening night. When day dawned and light at last seeped in, the rain had stopped, but heavy clouds hung low filling heaven’s vast expanse. Outside it was nippy, a nip perhaps chilly enough at last to encourage the changing colors of autumn leaves. Throughout the day as mighty gusts of wind continued to blow and dampness reminiscent of the rain hung in the air, the delicious rhythm of last night’s falling rain lingered in my thoughts. “Listen to the pouring rain, listen to it pour, let it rain all night long…”
Lingering in Happiness
After rain after many days without rain,
it stays cool, private and cleansed, under the trees,
and the dampness there, married now to gravity,
falls branch to branch, leaf to leaf, down to the ground
where it will disappear — but not, of course, vanish
except to our eyes. The roots of the oaks will have their share,
and the white threads of the grasses, and the cushion of moss;
a few drops, round as pearls, will enter the mole’s tunnel;
and soon so many small stones, buried for a thousand years,
will feel themselves being touched.
~Mary Oliver
Be patient, then, brothers and sisters, until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the land to yield its valuable crop, patiently waiting for the autumn and spring rains. ~James 5:7 ✝

the storms are marching our way as we’re expected to have severe weather in the wee hours—the only thing perhaps positive from such is the promise of maybe some cooler weather!!
Wishing you joy Natalie—Julie

That’s what happened here. And then today that wind blew all day long and I had to wear long pants instead of my shorts. So I pray you get this blast of cooler weather too.
Maybe not the wind so much, but the rain and coolness.
Love and hugs, N 🙂 ❤

Please send some of that rain this way N. Sao Paulo is especially in dire need. For the past two years, we have gone through months of rationing at a time. I love the sun and warmth, but we sure could use a few heavy rainfalls.
Blessings.

Oh I wish I could. We’ve been in an ongoing extreme almost 10 drought in this part of the country. So any rain we get is a huge blessing. It had been several months when we got some last week and then again last night. Not only does the land need rain but my spirit does as well, Staci. I miss it so much when it’s gone and my spirit becomes as parched as the land itself. I pray that you get some soon! Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

Thank you Natalie. I hope we get some too. Actually, I hope they get some in Sao Paulo. People are really having it tough there. My husband also just told me that the temperatures are ranging 97 degrees F in the city we’re moving to at the beginning of next year, and only 10 % humidity. EEK. It’s very dry. Right now, I am sitting in my chair in a loose summer dress, sweating. It’s 87 degrees here at the moment and dry. Phew!
Send some rain now please.

WOW can you write! I was lifted up and taken right into your evening, right into the moment, the storm, the lights that went out, the morning and the sounds. Just beautify “Nitty.” Reading your words are reminiscent of a beautiful song. ❤ 🙂

Ah shucks, missy! Thanks for you kind words! Are you old enough to have heard Jose Feliciano’s “Listen to the pouring rain?” I so wish I’d knew how to add a song like you do to your posts. It’s one of my all time favorites and that’s what I was quoting at the end of my paragraph and before Oliver’s poem. Maybe that’s what made it seem reminiscent of a song. Love you, N 🙂 ❤

Of course I know his music – my music taste goes as far back as the 20s, through to the present day, thanks to my mother, as well as my own spirit. I would be MORE than happy to give you the code to place a song in your posts as I do. 😀 With memory being what it is (I’m a bit scattered, well not really – more like focusing heavily on many things at one time) – might you please email me to remind me and I’ll respond with the code and full step by step instructions?
I’m heading off to bed dear heart. Sweet Dreams Sweet Natalie. As a childhood figurine I once had said “goodnight goodnight wherever you are.” ❤ ❤ ❤
