With rake and seeds and sower,
And hoe and line and reel,
When the meadows shrill with “peeping”
And the old world wakes from sleeping,
Who wouldn’t be a grower
That has any heart to feel?
~Frederick Frye Rockwell
The gardener in his old brown hands
Turns over the brown earth,
As if he loves and understands
The flowers before their birth,
The fragile childish little strands
He buries in the earth.
Like pious children one by one
He sets them head by head,
And draws the clothes when all is done,
Closely about each head.
And leaves his children to sleep on
In the one quiet bed.
~Arthur Symons
When a farmer plows for planting, does he plow continually? Does he keep on breaking up and working the soil? When he has leveled the surface, does he no sow caraway and scatter cumin? Does he not plant wheat in its place, barley in its plot, and spelt in the field? His God instructs him and teaches him the right way. ~Isaiah 28:24-26 ✝

I love that poem Nanalie. the entire sentiment about sowing the seed, oh how it took me back to my garden in the country. Some times the rows of vegetables seemed to go on forever. I always wanted to get to the end of just one row of green beans, but never succeeded. I could fill the buckets from one spot only, and invite friends and family from town to come out and pick the rest of the beans when I finished. Thanks for this my friend. Hugs.

You should have gotten James to have taken a shot of you with your bonnet and trowel 🙂
You’ve got me chomping at the bit for sure!!!
We’ve got the sun and now if we could get the warmth—I’d be set 🙂
Happy dreams of gardens!!

You know, I didn’t even think of that. I don’t wear a bonnet, but I sure could have played the part even so. I’ll have to think of that for another post later on. I think I’ve got just about everybody chomping at the bit including me. I hope you do get some warmth soon.
We’re in the midst of our mid-January warm up that tricks things into thinking spring has come, and then February brings back the bitter cold and freezes all their little buds right off. Love and hugs, N 🙂 ❤
