Plink, plink, plinkity-plunk,
Plink, plink, plinkity-plink,
Ting, ting, ting,
Drip, drip, drip,
Ping, ping, ping,
I’ve put myself completely
in the keeping of another rainy day.
Plop, plop, ploppity-plop.
~Natalie Scarberry
Rain Music
On a drenched earth-drum
Beats anew the falling rain;
First a whispered thrum,
Then a louder strain.
Slender, silvery drumsticks,
On an ancient drum.
Beat the mellow melodies
Bidding life to come.
Chords of earth awakening,
Notes of coming spring
Rise and fall triumphant
Over each and everything.
For God, the Great Musician
Taps out all such transitions.
~Edited and adapted lines
from a poem
by Joseph Seamon Cotter
Let us acknowledge the Lord; let us press on to acknowledge Him. As surely as the sun rises, He will appear; He will come to us like the winter rains, like the spring rains that water the earth. ~Hosea 6:3

Nice poems Natalie. I like to think of rain as feeding the earth.

Thanks, Pete. I seem to be on a roll of siliness of late, but then rain and spring always bring out the child in me. Hugs, N 🙂

Loving the little inquisitive bird–wondering who that is looking at him in the rain–and I love your opening poem which actually sounds like the rain. . .which is here as well—drip drip drop. . .

Thanks. I love that bird too. I’m glad you enjoyed my silliness in my poem. Maybe it’s the pain meds. Ya think?! Much love, my sweet drippy Georgia Peach. 🙂 ❤

I love this picture of the bird with all sorts of gold colors. The quote reminds me how much I love the smell of the earth being kissed by soft rain. I just realized that I don’t smell that in winter rain. One more thing to look forward to 🙂

I so wish we had those kinds of European robins on this continent. They are one of my most favorite of birds. I smell rain in winter, but it’s definitely a richer, lustier smell this time of year. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

You’re right. There is a subtle rain smell in winter. I just need to slow down and notice it. The smell of the earth is always present.

I liked your poem! I have been listening to the rain, too. My little boxwoods are always so happy this time of the year. When I think of areas like California suffering from drought I am even more grateful.
Hugs and Blessings,
Theresa

Yes, indeed, I too am grateful for the rains we’ve been getting. I pray that all the drought-ridden areas get some as we move into spring. Love and hugs, N 🙂 ❤
