There is a pleasure in the pathless woods,
There is a rapture on the lonely shore,
There is society, where none intrudes,
By the deep sea, and music in its roar:
I love not man the less, but Nature more.
~George Gordon, Lord Byron
Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature’s peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. The winds will blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. ~John Muir
Oh, how I love the sea and at no time more than when I’m there at dusk or dawn. I took these photos on a visit to Galveston several years ago, and they still speak to me as much of God as does my garden. While the bird and I walked along the “lonely shore” together, you’ll notice that it stopped twice as if waiting and watching and listening. I believe it’s because in the dim quietude we both clearly heard the sacred songs of the spheres and the music of the deep sea’s roar. So let us drink a cup of the “good in everything” today as we celebrate the earth, its bounty, and its beauty. And let us not forget to praise the Lord now and always for all His gifts and goodness!
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities–his eternal power and divine nature–have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse. ~Romans 1:20 ✝

So lovely and refreshing. For today’s Earth Day and when ever possible, plant trees so the futur will still see the beautiful shores of lakes and our oceans.

Absolutely a fitting tribute—as it makes me long for that time of communion I too find when I walk the ocean’s shore—such a connection to all things and of the one true God of Creation–
Happy thoughts of wonder on this Earth Day—
Hugs from a sun filled cookie–that is until the rains move back in this evening—ugh!!!!

I’m so ready for some communion at the beach, but that will have to wait until later in the year. There is definitely something on the shore looking out to sea that speaks of God and the eons of time that have come before us. How many millions of years have those waves been rolling in and crashing on the shores just mind boggling to me. How wonderfully wondrous is the earth and all of Creation! Night night, my little sunny Cookie! We’ve been cloudy all day but no rain so far. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

What a wonderful reminder! We should never forget that we each have a cup that allows us to “taste and see that the Lord is good”. 🙂

Your photos capture the light in God’s big mirror quite well. I long to get back to the ocean. It’s time! Love the Muir quote too!

Oooh, I love the idea of capture the light in God’s mirror! Thanks for the lovely compliment. I’m so ready to go back to the beach too! It’s way past time for me. I lost all last year because of my knee. We leave for Europe in June for two weeks, but sometime in the fall, I’m gonna see if we can take a two day trip to Galveston. I pray you get to the beach soon. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

We can hear the divine in the crashing of the waves, and we can see the divine in the reflections of light on water. I have witnessed the divine here, in your post. Blessings, Brenda

A beautiful tribute Natalie. It makes me long for my special place in the woods, with the music of the birds, the song of the wind sighing thru the trees, and the pond where the fish come up to see who is watching so intently. I go there in my memory now, and still enjoy what probably is no longer there, so memories are sometimes better that reality. Thank you for sharing your memories with me. It brought some of my own back to the front of my brain. Hugs, Angie

Oh, I’m so glad my post brought back some good memories. When we go to Galveston, it always takes me back to my beloved childhood in southern California. Here’s to great memories, my friend!

What would we do without our memories? Mine go back as far as my Uncles coming home from WWII, and encompass all the wonderful years of country living. And with the ones my mother shared of her childhood, they even include the Depression, years before I was born. I share those with my cousins at least once each year, so they can remember also.

This is beautiful LMS. Would that be a Sandpiper? I always think of the song by Glen Campbell when I read or hear Galveston.

Ya know, I’m not sure what kind of bird it is, but I think perhaps it’s an avocet. There are a lot of them in Galvestion and I love their long legs and beaks. That was a great tune by Campbell, and I’d forgotten it until you mentioned it. Love’n hugs back to you, LMS 🙂 ❤
