718. The bee is more honored than other animals, not because she labors, but because she labors for others. ~Saint John Chrysostom

The honey-bee’s great ambition
is to be rich, to lay up great stores,
to possess the sweet
of every flower that blooms.
She is more than provident.
Enough will not satisfy her,
she must have all
she can get by hook or crook.

How doth the little busy bee
Improve each shining hour,
And gather honey all the day
From every opening flower!

How skillfully she builds her cell!
How neat she spreads the wax!
And labors hard to store it well
With the sweet food she makes.
~Excerpted verses from a poem
by Isaac Watts

Eat honey, my son, for it is good; honey from the comb is sweet to your taste. ~Proverbs 24:13   ✝

  2. I’m a day late and a dollar short—got into bed late last night and thought to myself that I had not seen Natalie’s post—almost got back up to go to the computer, but knew it would be waiting on me this morning. I love the quote by St John Chrysostom—one of the great Orthodox saints—and I have a real affinity for bees—as I keep telling myself I’m going to get a bee box—yet I fear it is on hold along with my chickens, for now. . .a beautiful reminder of these most important components to our world who are in grave danger of disappearing —so go the bees, so go us all. . .
    A blessed Thursday my friend!!

    • Oh how sweet, but I’m so glad you didn’t get back up. It will always still be there in the AM and you are so busy and stressed these days.
And it’s not like lately I’ve gone to bed without reading yours. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤
