August ends today,
and yet summer will continue
by force to grow more days.
They sprout secretly between
the chapters of the year,
covertly between its pages.
~Adapted and edited quote by
Jonathan Safran Foer
Sail away, sail, sail away–oh wretched month of August that brings into such sharp focus the “furious boil” of Texas summers. Your daily assaults of sweltering heat test my sanity, my stamina, and my endurance! As the beast of sizzling nastiness that you are, you’ve successfully bathed the landscape in drab browns and beiges by keeping nary a drop of rain from falling, day after day after drought-ridden day. But, alas and alack, your time coin will be spent at midnight today! And even though the heat of your volcano-like fury will linger a bit longer, at least there are a few visible signs that autumn is on the way. So it is with a huge grin and a hopeful heart that I say goodbye and good riddance!
I cared for you in the wilderness, in the land of the burning heat. ~Hosea 13:5 ✝

Lovely photo Natalie. Are you feeling a little cranky about the heat? XD
Maybe it’s time for a swim.

A little cranky??? How about over the top cranky! I’m so tired of this heat. What I’d really like more than a swim was to sail away on the boat for a few days. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

Enjoy your sailing, even if it’s imagination. 🙂

Lovely photo!
Today was a bit humid on our end (NYC) but I’m sure nothing compared to what you must have felt in your area. I hope relief comes soon. Have you finished the work in your garden?

Thank you, I keep praying the temps will drops soon. I’m sorry it was humid and warmish on your end! That’s no fun no matter where you are. I finally hired someone last week to finish the two areas of heavy weeds that were left. And now it’s so nice to be able to get back in the beds to work. Of course new weeds are coming back but now I can keep them under control. Everything just got so out of control with all our heavy spring rains and my knee replacement down time. Then we went on vacation for those 2 and I/2 weeks in July. But it’s all better now, thank you for asking. Have a great week and may your temps be better and the humidity lower. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

You said that so well…you write so beautifully. I complain about our hot humid Arkansas summers where our clothes remain soaking wet for the most part and mold clings to everything that hasn’t been thoroughly bleached, but I am thankful for the green landscape…I guess it is a trade off. 🙂
Hugs and Blessings,
Theresa

Why thank you, Theresa. We’re pretty humid here so much so that when I come in from working in the yard, my clothes are wet all the way down to my underwear.
Have a great week, missy. Love, N 🙂 ❤

we’re on the same page my hot and humid friend—tomorrow’s posting speaks of the changes soon at hand—just not soon enough!!
All the rain they told us we’d be getting this week seems to have fled the scene as the chances are now 0%—go figure—this as the thermometer sits at 90—oh I’m ready for Fall to come sailing in for sure!!!
Here’s to our cooler crisper wishes 🙂

The few changes I’ve seen are definitely not soon enough for me either. I’m sorry your rain vanished. That’s what keeps happening here. The weather guys say rain is coming and then zip, nada, zilch. It’s just so exasperating. Here’s to an early fall for sure! Love and hugs, N 🙂 ❤

91 today but on my way to Dad’s, I’ve noticed a few trees starting to “practice” –gives me hope 🙂

Whew! It’s that time of year when temps in the low 80s feel cool! Fall and Spring are the best of seasons. I will miss swimming outside though…one more month of that maybe.

Oh, I’d love to have the low 80’s. We’re still experiencing the high 90’s and the forecast is for more of the same. Is there not somewhere you can swim indoors where you are? 🙂 ❤

You must love something about Texas to put up with those long summers! I have a friend who’s invited me to swim with her at her apartment complex indoor pool. Something to look forward to. 🙂

Actually not much, JoAnne. Well, other than the hot, hot months, it’s not too bad. I just happened to marry a born and bred Texas man who vows to never leave here, and my daughter and her family are here so I stay and just whine A LOT every summer. 🙂 🙂 🙂
