889. What I love is near at hand, always, in earth and air. ~Theodore Roethke

I will dance
The dance of summer’s passing
And waning feverishness

I will dance
The dance of October’s coming
And fall’s beguiling ways

I will dance
The dance of golden light
And the ever-shortening days

I will dance
The dance of autumn’s beauty
And whirling lovely leaves

I will dance
The dance of cooling winds
And clouds bearing rain

I will dance
The dance of meeker morn’s
And migrating flocks of birds

I will dance
The dance of earth’s melodies
And songs a-blowing in the wind

I will dance
The dance of God’s Creation
And ever-changing seasons
~Natalie Scarberry

Let them praise his name with dancing and make music to him with timbrel and harp. ~Psalm 149:3   ✝

    • Thanks, Tiny. You are so right. The hard one for me is summer, at least here in Texas. But put me where it’s not so dreadfully hot and I’ll celebrate daily. I do try, but July and August are just so miserable. Not having been born here in this climate, I’ve just never adapted or adjusted to it. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

  2. Your poem touched a special cord in my heart Natalie. I could see the colors bursting from the trees, the piles and piles of leaves that we used to jump in. Smell the leaves burning in my neighborhood. Feel the excitement of the days to come and the smell of snow in the air. I could hear the laughing of the children as they trick or treat from door to door. The smell of baking and the excitement of what Fall brings with it’s appearance. Thank you for the warm and beautiful memories. :o)

  3. Natalie, this is beautiful. I’m printing your poem out so I can read it over and over. It might become a plaque on my wall before Autumn is over this year. Most of my poetry ends up on my wall at different times of the year. Hugs, Angie

  4. Lovely poem here LMS, very nice indeed. Had to look up timbrel, I used to play the tamborine in the school band. Didn’t make anyone dance though. 🙂 ❤ 🙂

  5. And I will gladly dance with you Natalie! I love Autumn, as the air becomes crisp and the world seems to get filled with so much color, happy and sad at the same time. I don’t know how else to explain it!

Happy October ! Hope fall brings with it joy! ❤
