When I am alone I can become invisible.
I can sit on top of a dune as motionless as an
uprise of weeds, until the foxes run by unconcerned.
I can hear the almost unhearable sound
of the roses singing.
~Mary Oliver
You have traveled too fast over false ground;
Now your soul has come to take you back.
Take refuge in your senses, open up
To all the small miracles you rushed through.
Become inclined to watch the way of rain
When it falls slow and free. Imitate the habit of twilight,
Taking time to open the well of color
That fostered the brightness of day.
Draw alongside the silence of stone
Until its calmness can claim you.
~John O’Donohue
He who has ears to hear, let him hear. ~Matthew 11:15 (ESV) ✝

One of the most important things you can do each day is share a bit of beautiful and a measure of kindness…Your post is really special.

Thanks, that’s what I try to do, Charlie. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

Love this, we all need to ‘be still’ so as to employ all our senses. A lot of times they don’t get that much ‘exercise’. 🙂

You’re so right, V. Most people don’t exercise all their senses or even exercise gratitude for them. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

Thanks, Nico. You are so welcome! That rose is called Belinda’s Dream and I have two in my yard as it is one of my favorites. I always think whoever Belinda was or is, she must have very beautiful dreams. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

I always love Mary Oliver’s poems, but have not read much of John O’Donohue who’s poem here touches a truth in my soul and beckons me to deeper clarity. Thank you for these treasures!

Such a beautiful photo, the rose reaches out of itself to share it’s beauty, splendid in it’s perfection, and accompanied with the wonderful poem by John O’Donohue, what a perfect start to the day. Thank you Natalie.

Thanks, Teri. And you are so welcome! I absolutely love this rose and have two in my yard. So I frequently take her picture. And I adore John O’Donohue’s writings. I’m so glad my posy and his words were a perfect start for your day. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

Again–the joy of silence—it’s when we truly can hear—odd that 🙂

Odd that is right! Today as I was finishing up in the yard, I kept hear these birds and trying to see where they were. I love the sounds of birds. I had worked in silence most of the time I was out there and it’s such a delicious time. My mind stops all it’s churnings and I’m fully in the moment. It’s like a warm, comforting blanket wraps around me. Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

So beautiful. I so love to sit in the peace of a park and just listen to the birdsong and other creatures – it is so refreshing for the soul
