1046. The trees down the boulevard stand naked in thought, their abundant summery wordage silenced… ~D. H. Lawrence

Have you ever noticed a tree standing naked against the sky,
How beautiful it is?
All its branches are outlined, and in its nakedness
There is a poem, there is a song.
Every leaf is gone and it is waiting for the spring.
When the spring comes, it again fills the tree with
The music of many leaves,
Which in due season fall and are blown away.
And this is the way of life.

“You think I am dead,”
The apple tree said,
“Because I have never a leaf to show-
Because I stoop,
And my branches droop,
And the dull gray mosses over me grow!
But I’m still alive in trunk and shoot;
The buds of next May I fold away-
But I pity the withered grass at my root.”

“You think I am dead,”
The quick grass said,
“Because I have parted with stem and blade!
But under the ground,
I am safe and sound
With the snow’s thick blanket over me laid.
I’m all alive, and ready to shoot,
Should the spring of the year
Come dancing here-
But I pity the flower without branch or root.”

“You think I am dead,”
A soft voice said,
“Because not a branch or root I own.
I never have died, but close I hide
In a plumy seed that the wind has sown.
Patient I wait through the long winter hours;
You will see me again-
I shall laugh at you then,
Out of the eyes of a hundred flowers.”

  1. As we drove up this afternoon to my 92 father-n-law’s home, traveling a mostly rural route—I stared out the window at the trees… the familiar woods…usually so full and blanketing– yet now they, the trees, stand quite, stalk, lonely, yet diligently aware of their true nature—it was that feeling of the quiet before the storm—not of death or silence…yet a mere biding of time—-

Two beautiful poems, lovely photos AND a gorgeous YouTube song by a woman I did not know about! What more could you ask for?! 😉 ❤
    Peace, love & beautiful harmonies,

Her husband made a video for her novel. He wrote the song too. You can find it on YouTube under the same title. Or look thru my posts for a link! (That's so one of these pics show up instead of one from my video!) 😉 ❤
