676. The ability to simplify means to eliminate the unnecessary so that the necessary may speak. ~Hans Hofmann

All goes back to the earth,
and so I do not desire
pride of excess or power,
but the contentments made
by men who have had little:
the fisherman’s silence
receiving the river’s grace,
the gardener’s musing on rows….

To find the universal elements enough;
to find the air and the water exhilarating;
to be refreshed by a morning walk
or an evening saunter…
to be thrilled by the stars at night;
to be elated over a bird’s nest
or a wildflower in spring —these are
some of the rewards of the simple life.
~John Burroughs

The law of the Lord is perfect, restoring the soul; The testimony of the Lord is sure, making wise the simple. ~Psalm 19: 7   ✝

  1. kind of reminds me of accentuating the positive–which in turn leads me to song 🙂
    I love the baby birds and I look forward to sun and warmth as we hope to eventually banish this rain, grey and fog!!

    • It has been gray and rainy off and on all day here, but I don’t complain about rain EVER any more after the awful drought that we’ve been having for so long. I sure hope my little limp Cookie perks up soon! Love, a soggy Natalie 🙂 ❤
