I left a couple of messages already of my Mom’s memory of a maypole and her teaching us how to collect flowers from her garden and using simple baskets to leave on people’s doorsteps. I continued May baskets with my own 3 munchkins, making them for elderly folks in our neighborhood. As a teacher, we made colored paper baskets and Kleenex or tissue paper “flowers” with pipe cleaner stems for their mothers or neighbors. Hope you have a Merry month of May, dear! ❤

As a young woman (17 to 19 years of age) we would always crown someone queen of May. When I was 18 I was elected for this honor, and had to hobble up in my high heels to be crowned, terrified of falling in my long gown and high heels and looking every inch the terrified queen of May. Memories can be fun, or not. I love this post Natalie. Hugs, Angie

It was fun back then Natalie. They don’t do this any longer though. So much has changed, and not for the better either. Too bad it had to go like that. The young ladies today don’t know the thrill of being selected by their peers as worthy of being a queen for a day.

I remember as a child we would collect flowers to make a crown and dance the May Pole. A lost tradition that was such fun.
