499. A man’s reach should exceed his grasp, or what’s a heaven for? ~Robert Browning

Come,
Grow old along with me!
The best is yet to be,
the last of life,
for which the first was made.

I go to prove my soul,
I see my way as birds their trackless way,
I shall arrive. –What time, what circuit first,
I ask not: but unless God send His hail
Of blinding fireballs, sleet, or stifling snow,
In some time, His Good time,I shall arrive;
He guides me and the bird. In His good time.
~Robert Browning

To the Lord your God belong the heavens, even the highest heavens, the earth and everything in it. ~Deuteronomy 10:14   ✝

  1. Hauntingly beautiful …and of all the owls, this is the species I love– the barn owl—with their benevolent round heart shaped head and face—I read a little book not long ago about the exploits of a young woman who was a research biologist who raised a barn owl from an owlet. The owl had a hurt wing and could not survive on his own (Wesley the Owl: The Remarkable Love Story of an Owl and His Girl by Stacey O’brien) For 19 years, the span of Wesley the owl’s life, they developed an intense and remarkable bond–not the easiest sort of pet or housemate as he became, as he had to have fresh mice daily and his talons were not furniture friendly—but the bond and relationship between them was unmistakeable —and of course I cried when he took his last breath.
    However I did re-think the whole wanting to raise one myself. . . 🙂

  4. Wonderful picture & quotes Natalie! Owls are amazing birds, I love them – you know in some France’s region there was the awful custom of nailing an Owl to a barn door to ward off evil and lightning… of course now these birds are protected… ah, supersition is such a stupid thing…
    “In some time, His Good time,I shall arrive;
    He guides me and the bird. In His good time.” What a beautiful proof of confidence! Thank you dear Natalie 🙂 and much love to you ♥

    • I love owls too; they have a very mysterious, other worldly look about them, like something one might find in a fairy tale. I’m so glad they have become a protected species in France now so that no more of them have to suffer being nailed to a barn door. I’m glad you enjoyed Browning’s words. Much love to you too, cher, and I pray that you have a wonderful
      Sabbath! Hugs, N 🙂 ❤

    • Where did you buy the owl? I’d love to have one too so I could be rid of the squirrels and in the early spring of those darned old grackles. I’m so glad it worked for you. I may try to come to lunch next week because I’m hoping Liz will make a cheesecake since it’s my birthday month. Nothing like an ulterior motive, huh?! Love you, missy Cline. Hugs, 🙂 ❤
